Mary Landrieu (D-LA) voted to start debate on Harry Reid’s health care bill. Landrieu was one of two Democrats who have been on the fence on whether to support the bill.
While Landrieu explained that her vote to start debate should not be taken as an indication of how she will vote in the end, it is hard to ignore page 432 of the Reid bill. In the section, it refers to increasing Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster”.
Then it spends two pages explaining which states would qualify, those states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” were declared a “major disaster area”.
Acording to ABC News, this applies to one state (drum roll please)…Landrieu’s Louisiana!
Harry Reid can’t pass this bill without Landrieu’s support. It appears, by today’s vote, that it may be working. But its not over quite yet. Mary Landrieu could still walk away with her soul and some self-respect…or, she could join the rest of her Democratic colleagues and be a part of the machine that is D.C. politics- the machine that is about to have a wrench thrown into it by The People.
Mary Landrieu, look into the eyes of your children, and/or children’s children. What kind of America will they grow up in? Will you be part of the problem, or will you be part of the solution in stopping an out-of-control government. This is your opportunity to say to them, I stood on principals, not politics.
There is a legacy that we all leave behind. This is a fine example of politicians willing to be a part of a horrendous legacy. Do you want your name attached to one of the most unpopular decisions made in modern history?
